State Rep. and Speaker Pro-Tem Bill Dunn announced in August that he is not running for re-election. Dunn was first elected in 1994.

Before Dunn’s announcement Knox County School Board Member and former Chair of the Board Patti Bounds had announced her intent to run for the position. If elected, Bounds will be forfeiting the last two years of her school board term.

In November/December 2019, Knox County Commissioner Michelle Carringer announced she would not run for re-election in March 3 and August 6 and instead would run for the Republican nomination for State Representative on August 6, challenging Bounds.

No Democrat has gotten a petition

The qualifying deadline is April 2 at NOON and the withdrawal deadline is April 9 at NOON
