Yesterday, the Knox County Commissions Committee on Committees met. YES there is a committee about committees, cue the comedic humor.

Ultimately, the committee looks through the committee and board list and determines if all committees are necessary. I apparently missed the first meeting, this meeting they began to dwindling down their work and will have an anticipated final meeting on December 14.

The Court Subcommittee is set to be sunset and abolished. It hasn’t met in awhile and Criminal Court Clerk Mike Hammond has informed Commissioner Carson Dailey if he needs a subcommittee in the future it could be accomplished with an adhoc committee.

Additionally, there was discussion about dissolving the Ethics Committee because Dailey says it has become a political tool against officials and that he says that was not the intent of its creation. He was referring to complaints on Commissioners Charles Busler, Bob Thomas and Brad Anders Knox County Chief Deputy Lee Tramel back in 2017 & 2018.

TN State Law required every County to create an Ethics policy. Knox County implemented a policy and a Committee.
The Knox County Ethics Committee was created by the Knox County Commission on January 22, 2007, to receive and investigate complaints of violations of the policy and to refer matters to the appropriate person or agency for further action under existing laws, if appropriate.

Citizen Michael Covington currently serves as the Chairman of the nine member Knox County Ethics Committee. The committee last met on Wednesday November 4. I believe the Committees Next Meeting will be February 10, 2021.

The Knox County Ethics Committee was created by the Knox County Commission on January 22, 2007, to receive and investigate complaints of violations of the policy and to refer matters to the appropriate person or agency for further action under existing laws, if appropriate.

The Knox County Ethics Committee meets quarterly.
