After 50% of the scheduled Knox Sheriffs / Merit System “Kumbaya” Committee meeting has concluded, the Sheriffs personnel received a letter from Commissioner Larsen Jay explaining the intent of the committee and it’s work. The letter is below.

Interesting that Jay says in the letter that this is not a rubber stamp for either side (Sheriffs administration or Merit System) of the committee. That is the first time I’ve read or heard that accusation.

Additionally, there is reference to no intent to abolish the Merit System. The only time, I recall hearing that allegation was from Sheriff Tom Spangler at a Commission meeting as he addressed the Commission from the public speaker podium.

As always, I will continue to watch this committee and it’s work so that the uniformed body can decide for themselves.
