Earlier, I posted this story about the current state of the August 28, 2020 opening of the kayak boat launch in Powell original story here and I asked Knox County Communication Czar Mike Donila and he got multiple sources of information in response.

Legacy Parks oversaw the construction and the placement of the kayak launch. Knox County’s Parks and Recreation Interim Director Shauna Godlevsky said: “The kayak dock was put in a floodway so it will flood during heavy rain events and my understanding is that it was anticipated by the volunteer engineers that Carol (Legacy Parks Director Carol Evans) worked with.” 

Commission Chairman Larsen Jay, who is helping the Mayor’s Office and the Parks Department oversee the project:

“Immediately after our press conference, the flotilla and announcement of the overall Beaver Creek project, HPUD took over the site behind Powell High School to complete their sewer-line upgrades. We knew this was scheduled and that it would take several months to complete. Once HPUD is finished in the area, Parks & Rec and EPW plan to regrade the area and install a proper parking area and establish this as a water-trail access point while also moving onto other areas of cleanup along the creek.” here are the remarks Jay made at the opening of the launch. 

Chuck James, director of  Knox County Parks “I spoke to Darrin Cardwell from HPUD and he assured me that they would put the parking lot back on grade and with rock when they leave the site.”
