Knoxville, Tenn. — Debbie Helsley announced Monday to friends and supporters that she will be seeking election to Knoxville City Council’s At-Large Seat B.

The campaign launched a website that can be found at DebbieForKnoxville.com
“It’s time to bring more seats to the table and create a Knoxville that is truly for all of us,” Debbie said in an email to supporters. “Knoxville still has work to do to ensure that everyone lives in safe communities, has access to housing that is affordable, and has access to green spaces and a clean environment.”

Helsley’s campaign will be built upon her life’s work fighting for worker’s rights, housing affordability, economic opportunity, and neighborhood advocacy.

Helsley is a former president of Knoxville’s CWA Local 3805 for 15 years and a former vice chair of the Tennessee AFL-CIO. Appointed by Mayor Madeline Rogero, she served 10 years on the City of Knoxville’s Civil Service Merit Board. Helsley is a founder of the South Woodlawn Neighborhood Association in her native South Knoxville, and she served as the neighborhood’s representative on the South Knoxville Neighborhood and Business Coalition (SKNBC).

Helsley’s announcement comes after her historic run for Knox County Mayor, where she received 45 percent of the vote county-wide as the Democratic nominee. Within city limits, Helsley garnered 61 percent of the vote.
