Town of Farragut Votes NO on Growth Plan…..

This evening the Town of Farragut Board of Mayor and Alderman once again shot down the Growth Plan aka Advance Knox, watch it here. Mayor Ron Williams and Vice Mayor Louise Povlin were in the minority to Alderman Drew Burnette (who is up for re-election on August 1, 2024) Alderman Scott Meyer and Alderman Dave White.

This is the same town that begged Knox County Government for a TIF (Tax Increment Financing) for the Biddle Farm project. Apartments and Retail development in the center of town. Could Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs and Knox County Commission call back that TIF? i do not know.

The Town of Farragut was key in pushing Knox County Schools to buy Doug Horne’s property for a new Elementary School. Could Knox County Mayor Jacobs refuse to place a new Farragut School in the Knox County Capital Plan? My experience as a Knox County School Board Member says YES he could. Will he?

The Town of Farragut is trying to get the Campbell Station Road Exit and I-40 fix moved up on TDOT’s plan. As Knox County Mayor is instrumental on the TPO (Transportation Planning Organization). Could he ensure its current timeline or later? I would think so.

Time will tell….. The Mayor’s Constituent Services employee Mandi Benedict said on WBIR on a program that aired last Sunday. If it were voted down, a new Growth Policy Team would not be reengaged. It will be status quo.
