Governor Thomas E. Dewey – three term Governor of New York. Republican Presidential nominee in 1944 and 1948. In 1944, he was not expected to beat the enormous wartime prestige of the incumbent President Franklin D. Roosevelt. In 1948, he was expected to beat Harry S. Truman, however, Truman surprisingly retained the loyality of both farm and labour circles.

“When you’re leading, don’t talk”

“No man should be in public office who can’t make more money in public life.”

“My decision on this matter is as certain and final as death and the staggering New Deal taxes.”

“Ours is an abiding faith in the cause of human freedom. We know it is God’s cause”
