The snow storm we have been hearing about is here and headed out, now to hunker down for a spell.

Monday night the Knox County School Board met in Work Session here, it begins at about twenty two minutes. The Superintendent Evaluation was briefly discussed and passed in Thursday’s voting session. On Thursday night Dr. John Butler (Democrat) made a motion that was passed for Superintendent of Knox Schools Dr. Jon Rysewyk (in February) to bring to the School Board a four year employment contract. He currently has one year on his existing contract. Currently Cannon County, Tennessee Schools is searching for a new Superintendent, here. There are a couple of Superintendent searches in Alabama, a couple in Georgia and one in North Carolina. Also, on Thursday, neighboring county Blount County Schools named Jake Jones as Interim Director of Schools following the resignation of former Director of Schools David Murrell a few days before.

Also, on Thursday the Knox County School Board voted to give 240 teachers tenure. The number of Professionals earning tenure by School District is as follows

First District – 16 Professionals Granted Tenure

Second District – 21 Professionals Granted Tenure

Third District – 24 Professionals Granted Tenure

Fourth District – 34 Professionals Granted Tenure

Fifth District – 25 Professionals Granted Tenure

Sixth District – 69 Professionals Granted Tenure

Seventh District – 22 Professionals Granted Tenure

Eighth District – 14 Professionals Granted Tenure

Ninth District – 15 Professionals Granted Tenure

Monday night there was some discussion of the 2025 legislative priorities as presented by School Board Member Steve Triplett, as the Tennessee General Assembly will begin their session the week of the 13th of January 2025. There was some discussion on Monday of when the board is divided how that can be the voice of the board. That is not an easy answer,

Tuesday night Knoxville City Council was intense, you can watch it here, start watching at 1 hour twenty minutes or so. It came on the heels of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office encountering an 18 year old as the SWAT team attempted a search warrant. The 18 year old is now dead due to an interaction with the KCSO SWAT team. The item at Council was an expenditure of $26 million for records management, body and dash cameras and upgraded tasers in 2028.
