A formal campaign to oppose the proposed 2025 Knoxville sales tax increase is now underway.
On Tuesday July 1, a Treasurer appointment form was officially filed with the Knox County Election Commission for a new single-issue committee named “Knoxville Against Raising Taxes.” R. Bentley Marlow will serve as Treasurer.
Donations to support the effort can be sent to:

Marlow previously served as Treasurer for the successful campaign that defeated Amendment 2—an effort to keep City Council elections citywide rather than by district. That grassroots campaign was known for its bold yellow-and-red signage and its ability to unify Republicans, Conservatives, and members of the progressive City Council Movement.
Now, that same unusual alliance will likely reform to oppose the proposed tax hike on the November 4, 2025 ballot. Last week, the Knox County Republican Party leadership officially voted to oppose the increase, joining the City Council Movement in public opposition.
