On July 25, 2025, the Karns/Knoxville community lost a remarkable woman, Lorraine Coffey, who passed away at the age of 95. Known for her unwavering dedication to the Republican Party and her fierce commitment to holding others accountable, Lorraine was a beloved figure whose presence left an indelible mark on those around her.
Lorraine’s loyalty to the Republican cause was evident in her actions. In 1998, when Judicial Magistrate Wayne Houser challenged Democrat candidate Darryl Fansler in the General Election, Lorraine stepped up to host at least one event for Houser’s campaign, if not more. Her home was a gathering place for like-minded individuals, a testament to her passion for the party and her community.
As Knox County Republican Party Chairman from 2005 to 2007, I experienced Lorraine’s forthright nature firsthand. If she disagreed with a decision, she didn’t hesitate to let me know, ensuring I stayed true to the values she held dear. Yet, when things were going well, her silence spoke volumes—she expected excellence as a matter of course. That was Lorraine: a woman who demanded the best from those around her, not out of criticism, but out of love for what was right.
In later years, Lorraine was a cornerstone of the Karns Republican Club. Her absence in recent times, when health kept her away, left a void that was deeply felt. Karns simply wasn’t the same without her sharp wit, steadfast principles, and warm presence.
Lorraine Coffey’s legacy is one of loyalty, accountability, and community. She will be dearly missed, but her influence will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Below is her obituary, honoring a life well-lived.
