Today, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee announced two key judicial appointments.
“I am proud to announce the appointment of these highly-qualified individuals and value the significant experience they will bring to their respective roles,” said Gov. Lee. “I appreciate their leadership and am confident they will serve Tennesseans with integrity.”
The following Tennesseans have been appointed:
Emily Abbott – 6th Judicial District Criminal Court
William Lane – 32nd Judicial District Circuit and Chancery Court

Emily Abbott currently serves as an Assistant District Attorney for the 7th Judicial District. Abbott earned her bachelor’s degree at Vanderbilt University and juris doctor at University of Tennessee College of Law. The 6th Judicial District Criminal Court covers Knox County. Abbott has been appointed to fill the vacancy created by Judge Steven Sword’s appointment to the appellate bench, effective immediately..
William Lane currently serves as the principal attorney at his own legal practice. Lane earned his bachelor’s degree at University of Tennessee and juris doctor at Nashville School of Law. The 32nd Judicial District Circuit and Chancery Court covers Hickman, Lewis, and Perry counties. Lane has been appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Michael Spitzer, effective immediately.
