On a vibrant evening at Calhoun’s on the River, Brent Gibson, a retired Knox County Sheriff’s Office Assistant Chief and SWAT Chief, officially launched his campaign for Knox County Sheriff in the Republican Primary set for May 5, 2026. Early voting will run from April 15 to April 30, 2026.
The venue, nestled in the heart of Knoxville near the iconic City-County Building and in the shadow of Neyland Stadium, was a fitting choice for Gibson. A former University of Tennessee football standout, Gibson proudly wore #91 as the center for quarterback Peyton Manning from 1992 to 1996. His deep ties to the community and his storied career made the location a symbolic backdrop for the kickoff.
Hailing from Canton, NC, where he graduated from Pisgah High School, Gibson came to Knoxville to play for the Volunteers. After his football career, he joined the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, where he served with distinction. Now, alongside his wife, Krystal, and their two daughters, Gibson calls Northeast Knox County home. He remains active in the community, coaching at Gibbs High School’s football team.
The race for Knox County Sheriff is heating up, and with plenty of coverage expected this fall and into early 2026, all eyes will be on Gibson’s campaign. Stay tuned for updates as the primary approaches!
