This week at a campaign stop in Kingsport, Democrat Gubernatorial Candidate Jerri Green said, “We don’t need to be in any way working with ICE. ICE needs to be defunded, abolished, abandoned, and we need to be putting those resources to actually help people; we’re spending billions of dollars to terrorize communities when we could be building them up.”
In the same interview, Green went on to say she would end the 287(g) agreements in the State of Tennessee and supports “allocating state funds for legal representation for immigrants facing deportation.” She also said she would not only end the National Guard deployment in Memphis but also reject further deployments throughout the state as it relates to immigration enforcement.

Speaking about Green’s comments, Blackburn said, “We couldn’t disagree more. I will always stand with our law enforcement heroes and ensure they have the tools and resources they need to fulfill their oath. Because of the incredible work of the Make Memphis Safe task force, we’ve seen real results, and I’m grateful for Senator Brent Taylor and the members of the General Assembly’s commitment to Make Memphis Matter. As your next governor, I will always stand shoulder to shoulder with our brave law enforcement officers, because illegal is illegal.”
