I am ending this post with an admonition to ALL THREE entities: GET TOGETHER, sit down at the same table, check the egos and excuses at the door, and GET THIS WORKED OUT.

Obviously, state law protects certain school safety and security protocols from being publicly discussed and debated. That protection exists for a reason. Nobody is asking for sensitive security information to be broadcast to the world.

BUT CARTER COMMUNITY — DO NOT CONFUSE CONFIDENTIALITY WITH SILENCE.

You have a voice.

You can sign up for Public Forum. You can show up. You can stand at that microphone. You can ask the tough questions. You can demand cooperation. You can demand accountability. And you can demand that the people entrusted with protecting your children find a solution.

These are YOUR kids. YOUR schools. YOUR neighborhoods. YOUR Carter Community.

Don’t sit back and wait for somebody else to speak up.

SHOW UP. STAND UP. SPEAK UP.

Fight for YOUR kids and YOUR community.

The public may not be entitled to every detail of a school security plan — but the public is absolutely entitled to expect the adults in charge to quit pointing fingers, work together, and DO THEIR JOBS.

When the safety of children is involved, “we couldn’t work it out” is NOT an acceptable answer.
