In his final official act as Mayor of Knox County, Glenn Jacobs signed an ordinance prohibiting county government agencies from using fixed automated license plate readers (ALPRs).

In a statement posted to X, Mayor Jacobs said: “Get the Flock out of Knox County! I wanted to leave this office the same way I came into it, fighting to protect your right to live your life, work, and raise a family unbothered by your government, and safeguarding the freedoms you entrusted me with for eight years.”

Fixed ALPR systems automatically capture and record license plate information from passing vehicles. The ordinance prevents Knox County government agencies from using fixed systems of this kind, reinforcing Jacobs’ longstanding commitment to individual liberty and limited government.

“Government should work for the people, not keep tabs on them,” Mayor Jacobs said. “I can think of no better way to close out my time as Mayor than standing up for the freedoms that make Knox County such a special place to call home.”
