The League of Women Voters of Knoxville-Knox County (LWVKKC) registered 243 new voters as part of their week-long campaign around National Voter Registration Day, September 14, 2026.

In just 5 days, more than 40 LWVKKC volunteers hosted 20 voter registration drives at 16 Knox County high schools, the University of Tennessee, and Likewise Coffee. At the University of Tennessee, LWVKKC partnered with Women in Politics.

“These results are encouraging,” said Lisa Plawchan, LWVKKC president. “These future voters are energized and engaged. They want to hear from the candidates.”

Voters will have an opportunity to hear from three of four candidates running for U.S. House of Representatives – District 2 at a student-led candidate forum on Oct. 8, at 6:30 p.m.

Confirmed candidates include Michaela Barnett(D), Bruce Fine (I), and Adam Heimerman (I). All candidates for these races have been invited.

*** Of course Rep. Tim Burchett (R) is unable to attend, I am confident due to Congressional work or previous district commitments. I have not asked Rp. Burchett or his campaign staff or team. Instagram HERE, X HERE
