Fourth District School Board Member Dan Murphy in public meetings has requested that the school district examine possible staggered start times for schools during the 2008-2009 school year. Knox County Schools in an effort to balance the proposed budget and to comply with Dr. Murphy’s request is presenting to the board members a “possible” staggered start schedule for the board’s consideration.

The savings in implementing this staggered start schedule will be $640,000.00

Here is the schedule that board members will consider, this decision will be the boards decision, not the Superintendent or his staffs.

If your school is not listed we are assuming that the normal start time will apply. Elementary School 7:45 – 2:45 and Middle School/ High School 8:30 – 3:30.

Tomorrow night at West High School the Knox County Schools will host an overview of school finance and the FY 2009 Budget request at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12 in the school’s auditorium. The school is located at 3300 Sutherland Ave. Here is the link to the preliminary 2008-2009 budget.
