Bobby Denton, the longtime Public Address announcer at Neyland Stadium passed away yesterday. In 1985, he ran for City Council, I first had volunteered in a political campaign in 1982. I volunteered at the Chilhowee precinct for Bobby.
In the 1990’s, I would occasionally go by the WIVK studios and visit with my friends, “Joe Show” Grant and Jim Donovan. That is when the WIVK studios were on Bearden hill near Kingston Pike and Papermill Road.
During those visits, I would end up on the porch closest to Kingston Pike, where Bobby would be standing with his cigar in hand. We had some great conversations on that porch. Bobby Denton was that one of a kind dude.
