Over the weekend, I finished Eric Metaxas book “7 Men and the Secret to their Greatness“ Reading biographies have always been my favorite genre of books. What Metaxas does is takes you into  the lives of George Washington, William Wilberforce, Eric Liddell, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Jackie Robinson, Pope John Paul II and Charles W. Colson.

While we have all read, hear or seen movies depicting the history of these men, Metaxas takes you into areas you have likely never read, heard or seen. George Washington could have established himself and his family as the ruling permanent political class, however, he didn’t Washington decided he should serve for a time and then allow someone to serve. Thank you George!

Metaxas authored the biography of Bonhoeffer. The most intimate telling is the story of Charles W. Colson. Metaxas got to know and eventually worked for Colson. Colson’s story is one that should be told over and over. There is a great lesson for us all in Colson. Going from near the top to a position of servant leader in what society views as the lowest of the low.

At the end of the book, is an excerpt from Seven Women and it is Corrie Ten Boom. Even in the excerpt reading it will reveal things about Ms. Ten Boom that you have likely never heard or read. I encourage you to get this book and spend some time going into the lives of this 7 men.
