I grew up in East Knox County from 1973 until the wife and I moved in 1992 out to Southwest Knox County. The family land is still in the Sunnyview community where some of my family still live.

So, when I heard the River Breeze Drive In was going to become the River Breeze Event Center. I had mixed emotions.

My Mammaw who lived next door to us took me there many times the Summer Grease released. I remember going into the snack bar.

Of course then when I was in middle school/early high school the River Breeze showed “dirty movies” also known as XXX.

The bridge was well known for people jumping from it all during my growing up years. BUT I digress. So,

Let’s review the River Breeze history, it opened on July 3, 1950, the first feature starred Frank Sinatra in Take Me Out to the Ballgame. Tickets were only .50

The two original, state of the art projectors cost $63,000 each in 1945. Today, that would be almost $1 million. In 1970, it was one of the first drive-ins to install radio sound.
