There are some people in life who leave a lasting impression through consistency, character, and passion. My close friend Bryan Hair is one of those people. Bryan and I have been friends since 2006, and over the years I’ve watched his love for sports, coaching, mentorship, and leadership influence countless people around him.
That’s why I’m excited to recommend Bryan’s first book, Hey Coach: Words That Shaped the Field.
The book is more than just a collection of sports stories. It’s about the lessons coaches pass along that stay with players long after the final whistle. Whether you played sports growing up, coached a team, or simply appreciate stories about leadership and motivation, this book connects on a personal level.
Hey Coach: Words That Shaped the Field brings together meaningful insights, memorable moments, and the kind of wisdom that comes from years of experience around athletics and mentorship. Bryan understands that coaching is about much more than wins and losses — it’s about shaping character, building confidence, and teaching life lessons that last for generations.
One of the things I appreciate most about Bryan is his authenticity. He genuinely cares about people, and that comes through clearly in his writing. The stories and reflections feel real because they are rooted in lived experiences and relationships developed through sports and life.
This is the kind of book that would make a great gift for:
- Coaches at any level
- Student-athletes
- Parents of athletes
- Sports fans
- Anyone who values leadership and encouragement
If you enjoy inspirational sports stories and meaningful lessons from the sidelines, I highly encourage you to check it out.

Congratulations to Bryan Hair on publishing his first book. I’m proud to call him a friend, and I’m looking forward to seeing many people encouraged and inspired by Hey Coach.

FINAL Editorial Note from I not Y – (BrIan Hornback – BrYan Hair)
To the keyboard warriors, fake friends of I & Y, and the jealous haters: if you think posts about Bryan or me on this blog or social media are hurting us or the readers here, they aren’t. While you’re at it, consider these three points:
- We are not who we once were. What you continue to hold onto, Jesus already forgave.
- Unlike some people, we’ve never claimed to be perfect. We’ve accepted our flaws, learned from our mistakes, and moved forward with the grace and forgiveness of God, along with the support of the friends and family who truly matter.
- If you believe you’re perfect, that’s your business. We don’t want your version of a perfect life, so feel free to move on.
