An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted in the indictment of former White House Blue Devil Quarterback Club treasurer Amber Burton after investigators determined she misappropriated at least $5,612.44 in club funds.

The Quarterback Club is a school support organization led by parents and volunteers to support the White House High School football program. The investigation followed complaints concerning Burton after a club fundraiser in May 2025. Burton resigned as club treasurer that same month.

Investigators determined that Burton misappropriated club funds through Venmo between January 2024 and June 2025. This included transferring money from the club’s Venmo account to her personal Venmo account, making a personal purchase with club funds, and retaining football fees that were paid directly into her personal Venmo account.

Burton repaid $3,583.74 of the misappropriated funds in June 2025 and May 2026. As of July 1, 2026, $2,028.70 remained unrecovered.

Based upon this investigation, in September 2026, the Sumner County Grand Jury indicted Amber Michele Burton on one count of theft over $2,500, and one count of money laundering.

“School support organizations raise money for the benefit of students, and those funds must be carefully protected,” said Comptroller Jason Mumpower. “No single person should control collections, deposits, payments, and recordkeeping. These organizations must also follow proper procedures when providing salary supplements to school employees.”
