Judge goes after Tennessee Star for publishing information from leaked Covenant documents

Thanks to the Tennessee Coalition of Open Government, I am sharing their email.

Davidson County Chancellor I’Ashea L. Myles has ordered Michael Patrick Leahy, editor and owner of the online Tennessee Star, to appear in court on June 17 to explain why his publication of information from leaked police documents in the Covenant School shooting case does not violate her court orders.

Michael Patrick Leahy

Leahy, who is a plaintiff in a lawsuit seeking access to police records, has published more than 30 stories from documents, interviews and pictures that were leaked to him. He has not named his sources.  Leahy’s lawyer, Daniel Horwitz, is challenging the judge’s orders, saying if she intended in her orders to bar publication of material, which Leahy legally obtained outside the court process, she has run afoul of the First Amendment which protects the press from “prior restraint.” Read more, including links to the court’s order and the response.
