This morning the daily paper reported that Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler confirmed an investigation by the TN Comptroller. But, before the day was over a Deputy is fired following his arrest for allegations of stalking an ex-girlfriend. The WVLT report states that the alleged victim had contacted KCSO and it took a week for anyone to contact her. Then the daily paper’s online story reports “…. most recently was an undercover officer with the Organized Retail Crime Task Force. he had been fired from the sheriff’s office in 2017 when former Sheriff jimmy “J.J.” Jones was in charge. Spangler hired him back.” So, two bad stories and KCSO is obsessed with taking HR functions away from the Merit System Council, read it here, here, here , here and here with another meeting scheduled for this Tuesday.

It seems to me that the last thing KCSO and it’s internal HR Department need to worry about is getting more control and power until the department itself settles down and in the words of Lt. Gabe Mullinax “frustration with the job has never been higher with Officers.”
