Tonight at the Knox County Commission Work Session, the Commission had six members that desired to serve on the newly created Personnel Committee with only four seats available. Commissioner Larsen Jay removed himself from the list. Commissioner John Schoonmaker wanted to serve, but failed to garner the votes to be on the committee.

The Commissioners on the new Personnel Committee (it is the Chair and four other members) when approved next week is Commission Chair Courtney Durrett, Commissioner Gina Oster, Commissioner Kim Frazier, Commissioner Carson Dailey and Commissioner Rhonda Lee.

The Commission interviewed citizen applicants for the Knox County Ethics Committee. The applicants were Knoxville Attorney Andy Fox, Arbitrator Neal Harvey Smith, Nurse Practitioner Debi Stafford and Joel Weeks, a retired KPD Officer.

The Commission is taking another stab at appointing a citizen to a two year term on the Knox County Merit System Board (formerly Council) the candidates were Michael Crichton, Denny Ford and Steve Weiner, three that were considered last month and two new applicants, Attorney Sarah Keith and John Valliant, who passed the bar last week.

Sarah Keith’s interview is here.

John Valliant’s interview is here.

Steve Weiner’s second interview is here, some people believe there is still some post election tension. Weiner was the Republican opponent to Jay earlier this year.

On Public Forum, Citizen Keith Britt raised some issues with the nomination of former City Council candidate Garrett Holt to serve on the County’s Board of Zoning Appeals for the Fourth Commission District. Those comments are here.

Britt also discussed the County Commission Resolution on petitioning the State of Tennessee to provide a Mental Health Hospital in Knox County, those comments are here.
