Commissioner Diane Jordan nominated her son Josh Jordan. Commissioner Mark Harmon nominated Helen Diane Lewis. Commissioner R. Larry Smith nominated Nick Della Volpe. Two Knox County citizens nominated themselves James R. (Jimmy) Golden and Robin Brothers.
The ballot concluded with Jordan 16 Lewis 1 and Della Volpe 1. Josh Jordan was selected as Commissioner for the First District replacing Diane Jordan.
