This was just another story in todays Tennessean. Just another small school having to close, not “for or because of the children” but because of the almighty dollar.

Smith County Board of Education had a 55 student Pleasant Shade Elementary School, it was one of only two schools in the Northern part of Smith County. You know Smith County, home of also ran and defeated for President, Al Gore. I digress.

Now back to the story, Pleasant Shade a community school of 55 students, smallest public school in the state. A great name, reminds of a spring, summer or fall day reading a book under a tree in the Pleasant Shade.

Smith County got to needing some money, so last night, they took a vote 5-3 to close it at the end of the year, cause we ain’t got no money.

The only reason, this story sparked my attention is that next year most of the kids will attend Defeated Creek. Defeated Creek, Who in their right mind would have named a school Defeated Creek? The kids, parents and community members surely felt defeated last night. Al Gore feels defeated today.

Defeated Creek that is a real motivation. I am going to Defeated Creek today…oh, my.
