Today April 21 at 6 pm in the parking lot of Smithwood Baptist Church the first Local Lore Knoxville of 2024 kicked off. History hostess Jennifer Montgomery led three dozen people on a brief walk talking about John Smith, who Smithwood was named. Smith gave the land for Smithwood Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Part One of the walk is here.

Part Two of the walk is here.

Part Three of the walk is here.

We visited the site of the former Smithwood School and walked the steps of the former school. Montgomery connected Adair and Fountain City to Smithwood for us.

Montgomery discussed the former Smithwood Drug Store, the Hill store and Pratt’s Market.
