I received a couple of contacts today from sources asking if I was aware that the Property Assessor had posted this new online tool. The link provides information of the rooms and sizes of each home and the current appraised value of each parcel of property in Knox County.

Many people are finding errors in the information. It fails to provide the correct number of bedrooms or bathrooms or both. Should you find errors, you are encouraged to contact the Property Assessors Office at 865-215-2360 and request a correction of the erroneous information. After all it is your home value.

A few interesting questions are. why did this new online tool have to be discovered and not revealed by the office of the Property Assessor? Why has the elected Property Assessor withheld the announcement of this new tool? Why does the Property Assessor continue keeping the taxpayers in the dark? Again, this is another example of the office failing to be open and transparent. Sources in the City County Building indicate that this online search tool been operational for 30-60 days. Secrecy is the mode of operation of the Property Assessor.
