This week, Senate Bill 0777 is on notice Tuesday March 24, 2026 in Tennessee State Senate Committee. As State Executive Committeeman for District 6, I want to set the record straight on what the Tennessee Republican Party’s State Executive Committee (SEC) has actually done to advance the issue, of closing primaries or party registration.
The SEC consists of 66 elected members who serve in four-year classes. These classes work together across sessions to drive party priorities. In 2018, the SEC formally requested closed primaries. Although I joined the committee in 2021 after a seat became vacant, the Class of 2018-2022 initiated that push, and the Class of 2022-2026 has continued the effort every legislative session since—working tirelessly for some form of primary closure or party registration.
At this past weekend’s Spring meeting, Tennessee Republican Party Chairman Scott Golden stated clearly: we are closer than ever to achieving closed primaries or party registration, and that progress is directly because of the work of the State Executive Committee.
My opponent, speaking recently at a meeting at Bel Air Grill in Halls, claimed the SEC “only took a position in 2018.” He appears unaware of how the SEC operates through its four-year classes and has apparently assumed we have done nothing since. That assumption is simply incorrect. The record shows consistent, sustained action by dedicated members across multiple classes, both classes that I have been honored to serve.
Real change in our party does not come from complaints or second-guessing. It comes from experienced, Christian, Conservative Republicans elected to the State Executive Committee—men and women who understand how to build coalitions, navigate the legislative process, and deliver results for our values and our state.
Tennessee Republicans deserve leadership that rolls up its sleeves and gets the job done, not voices that only speak up when things don’t go their way. The work continues, and with your support, we will finish what we started. Of course, Brian-HORNBACK-2026 is raising funds to reach the voters of District Six today and through this Summer, you can donate any amount of contribution here, to keep “the Christian, Conservative, Consistent Republican” serving District 6.
