School Vouchers in Tennessee are Almost a Reality

Last night, in the TN House Finance Committee the school voucher bill passed 11-10. It now goes to Calendar and Rules and then the House Floor for debate and vote. The Senate passed the bill, so one vote from the House that passes the bill then the voucher bill it should become law. Because, I suspect Governor Bill Haslam would not veto the bill.

The issue is that that a lot of people do not fully understand the bill, the ramifications of the law, it really seems to be more acceptable in the Metropolitan areas of the state in Chattanooga, Nashville, Knoxville and Memphis. In Knoxville, there had been a concerted effort on Facebook to oppose the bill by former one term Democrat State Representative Gloria Johnson, the KCEA (organized labor union) leaders. Even the current Fourth District County Commissioner used the position for political posturing, posting on Facebook that he opposed vouchers. When Johnson and KCEA President Lauren Hopson are opposed to it means it is probably a decent bill.

Check out this story from the Chattanooga Times Free Press.
