On a crisp evening in Loudon County, Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury Jason Mumpower addressed the Loudon County Republican Women, shedding light on the vital work of his office and sharing key insights into the state’s economic landscape. With 650 employees spread across eight offices statewide, Mumpower’s office plays a pivotal role in ensuring transparency and accountability in Tennessee’s financial operations.

A cornerstone of his office’s work is its investigative unit, which fields around 1,500 calls annually. Mumpower explained that roughly a third of these calls warrant thorough investigation, uncovering issues like a $750,000 kickback scheme or $750 involving a booster club member. Currently, the unit is managing 162 open cases across Tennessee’s 95 counties, a testament to its commitment to rooting out financial misconduct.

Mumpower also highlighted Tennessee’s robust economic standing. With an unemployment rate of 3.5%, the state is thriving. Wilson County stands out as Tennessee’s fastest-growing county and ranks as the 51st fastest-growing county nationwide. Loudon County, the state’s second fastest in growth by population, continues to be a significant player in Tennessee’s growth story.

In exciting business news, In-N-Out Burger is relocating its corporate operations to Tennessee, with the second-generation owner settling in Franklin. This move signals confidence in the state’s business-friendly environment, underpinned by Tennessee’s status as the nation’s lowest-debt and lowest-tax state.

Mumpower also touched on Tennessee’s economic backbone: agriculture and tourism. In 2024, the state welcomed a staggering 147 million documented visitors, cementing tourism as a powerhouse industry alongside agriculture.

As Mumpower wrapped up his talk, attendees left with a renewed appreciation for the Comptroller’s role in safeguarding Tennessee’s financial integrity and a sense of pride in the state’s economic vitality. From bustling counties to booming industries, Tennessee continues to shine as a beacon of opportunity.
