the Brian Hornback Experience Episode 195: Knox County Commissioner Andy Fox Questions Non-Profit Funding as Debt Looms: Will Others Join the Debate?

Conservative Republican Knox County Commissioner Andy Fox, representing District 9, joins me on the 195th episode of the Brian Hornback Experience. We dive into Knox County’s funding of non-profits—referred to in my terms as grants, and in Commissioner Fox and county legal language as “defined services contracts.” The podcast is here.

A majority of commissioners recently voted to delay action on this issue for six months—essentially kicking the can down the road for half a year, or two-thirds of a school year.

With Knox County now facing debt service payments in the tens of millions, the question remains: should taxpayer dollars fund every non-profit that receives a nod from the Mayor’s staff?

Commissioner Fox is the first of the 11 Knox County Commissioners I’ve invited to appear on the podcast before Thanksgiving 2025 to discuss this critical issue. The question now: will the other ten step up?
