The Robocall Poll Thats Gets Stuck

Tuesday evening my twitter feed began blowing up with people tweeting that they had received five or more calls from a robocall number asking about opinion of State Senator Stacey Campfield.

Anyone that knows the Sen. will verify that he wouldn’t pay for a poll. WATE, WBIR and WVLT all ran news stories about the harassing calls. Now, Tom Humphrey the Nashville Bureau Chief with the Big Metal Shed on the Hill has this story.

County Commissioner Richard Briggs the only announced candidate to challenge Campfield at this date denies any knowledge or involvement in the poll. The article ends with comments attributed to Briggs.

Briggs said he had nothing to do with the calls and found it a “real head scratcher” why anyone would conduct such a survey.

The short format, he said, was reminiscent of past robo polls on issues before Knox County Commission, such as proposed property tax increases, or a more recent poll on whether city or county employees should serve on the Knoxville City Council or County Commission.

The two polls that Briggs referenced were in a recent weekly throw away newspaper that is not owned by E.W. Scripps or the parent company of the Farragut Press. The Farragut Press and East Knox County News are the only two independent news print publications without an pre determined agenda.
