In Sunday’s News Sentinel, on the front page of the Sports section Tom Mattingly (the Vol Historian) authored and the News Sentinel published this story. The story detailed the three Assistant UT Football Coaches that were killed by a train wreck. The accident occurred on October 18, 1965 (plus or minus 10 months before this blogger was born), I didn’t realize before reading Mattingly’s story how close the accident scene is to my home. Of course, it impacted the three young families of the coaches that died and the team that had to finish that football season and their careers.

It was great to see good content, the News Sentinel ought to consider putting Mattingly on staff. You can read Mattingly’s content on the vol historian blog, here.

Mattingly has published a number of books detailing historical events involving the University of Tennessee, check out a few of them for purchase, here.
