An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office has resulted In the indictment of John Parker, Jr., the former Street and Sanitation Department Superintendent for the Town of Selmer. The investigation began after the Comptroller’s Office received allegations that Parker made unauthorized transactions using his town-issued credit card.

Investigators determined that Parker misappropriated at least $185.66 between October 25 and November 9, 2025, by making three personal purchases at Walmart using the town’s credit card. Receipts show the purchases consisted of food items, including eggs, bread, lunch meat, peanut butter, cereal, and vegetables.

At a December 9, 2025 board meeting, Parker admitted to using the town-issued credit card for personal purposes on more than one occasion. His employment was terminated by the town on the same date.

Based upon this investigation, on June 15, 2026, the McNairy County Grand Jury indicted John Parker, Jr. on one count of theft of property under $1,000, one count of fraudulent use of a credit card, and one count of official misconduct.
