The Knox County Commission Conference Room is being remodeled on the Sixth Floor of the City County Building. In the room were two twelve foot conference tables. Sources indicated that instead of using inmate labor to have the tables unassembled and taken out of the building. I was told they were cut in half and taken out.
I contacted the Public Building Authority who is in charge of the renovation. I was told “that conference room table was picked up by County surplus the end of November 2020. It is my understanding that they list and sell these items directly.”
I contacted Knox County Purchasing/Surplus because they place surplus items online at govdeals for sale. The reply read “Those tables were quite old and would not fit in the elevators. Using the stairwell proved to be too much as well. The tables were cut to more manageable pieces and loaded into an open top refuse container. The chairs from the the Conference Room were recently sold.” Â
This just ticks me off, Knox County taxpayer resources just thrown away.
