The Knox County School Board voted on the proposed budget that they sent to Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs.

The board was so complimentary about pay raises for Certified (teachers) and Classified (non teachers) and a balanced budget.

Of course in early 2020, many of the board members will be running for re-election to their board seat or in the case of the School Board Chair Terry Hill, she is rumored to be be seriously considering a run for Knox County Commission Sixth District.

So in this proposed budget is a line item $7,200 increase for the Board of Education Members. In its own budget document, it is a 3.6% increase, translated into an $800 increase per board member per year, a $66.66 per month increase per board member.Over a four year term of office it is $3,200 increase each board members is rewarding themselves.

The Knox County Charter states that the Board of Education will be compensated the same as members of the Knox County Commission. Mayor Jacobs will present his budget on Wednesday, if he does NOT propose a 3.6% increase for Knox County Commission. It seems at least on its face that they Board of Education if they approve this budget would be in violation of the Knox County Charter.
