Just because everyone else is doing it doesn’t make it right. As a kid, my mom always said, “If everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you?”
That adage came to mind when I heard the argument liberal Democrat Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon is making for the proposed half-cent sales tax increase, which all City of Knoxville voters will decide on starting this Wednesday, October 15, through October 30, and on November 4.
Union and Knox counties are at 2.25%, while Loudon is at 2%. All the others are at the maximum amount allowed by state law.
Why can’t Knoxville follow Loudon’s lead and reduce its rate to 2% instead? According to TN Comptroller Jason Mumpower, Loudon County is the second-fastest-growing county in the State of Tennessee, only behind Wilson County. If Knoxville is going to follow someone, follow Loudon. Just vote NO on more taxes for a bloated, out-of-control spending government like Knoxville’s.
