Knox County Criminal Court Clerk Race. Hammond, Williams and Hunnicutt

With Joy McCroskey opting not to be a candidate for re-election in 2014. That left Attorney Steve Williams and County Commissioner Mike Hammond. Yesterday, Jason Hunnicutt, Assistant District Attorney picked up a petition. All three picked up petitions to run as Republicans. Is there any other party in Knox County? I digress.

Williams has been out and about attending the 14 grass-root Republican clubs that exist in Knox County. Williams has been organizing his campaign through recruitment of volunteers, budget planning and fundraising.

Hammond announced for the position in early November and had a kickoff at Calhouns on the River in November. So, he too has been organizing and preparing. Hammond and Williams both attended the Halls Republican Club on Monday. The Halls Republican Club is the largest and most active club of the 14 clubs in Knox County.

How Hunnicutt can catch up in planning, organizing and raising the funds for a competitive race is still un clear. Hunnicutt had made the rounds a year or so ago exploring the possibility of pursuing a open Judge position. It can only be assumed that Hunnicutt chose not to seek that position due to other candidates jumping in first.

This race will get interesting with three candidates. Today at NOON is the filing deadline. All candidates have until next Thursday February 27, 2014 to withdraw.
