In a routine yet eventful quarterly meeting yesterday, the Knox County Ethics Committee convened for its November 2025 session. The highlight? Members unanimously re-elected Debby Stafford as Chair and Michael Bittel as Vice Chair, ensuring continuity in leadership for the panel tasked with upholding ethical standards in local government.

But the real buzz came from an unexpected vacancy. Back in October, the Knox County Commission interviewed a dozen applicants and appointed Perring Anderson and DJ Corcoran to the committee. Everything seemed set—until Corcoran, during his onboarding training, discovered a potential conflict: a sibling employed by Knox County.
True to ethical protocol, Corcoran immediately notified the county’s law department. Their advice? Reach out directly to the Commissioners. He did just that, reportedly calling every single one to disclose the issue. (You can watch the full announcement here.)
As a result, Corcoran’s seat is now vacant, and the position will reopen for applications in December. This is a prime opportunity for qualified, conflict-free candidates to step up and serve. If you’re passionate about ethics in public service and meet the criteria, dust off those applications—Knox County needs you!p
