On Tuesday May 12, 2020 at 2:30 pm Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs was on a Facebook Live stream with Ryan Black, an AFPTN (Americans for Prosperity TN) Regional Director on Opposing the Federal Bailouts.

Jacobs mentioned that currently the federal government is spending $400 billion on debt. It will potentially increase $100-$200 billion with the first bailout in April. Jacobs said if it replaces lost wages it is ok, but if it pads pension it’s different situation.

Black asked Jacobs how Knox County is ensuring it is staying fiscally responsible. Jacobs mentioned that Knox County has recently “furloughed quite a few employees”, implemented a “hiring freeze”, is awarding “no pay raises”, “has eliminated empty positions” and has a “travel ban”.
