Today, Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon announced her support for increasing the sales tax.
This would be Kincannon’s third major tax increase in the past three years and follows a property tax increase in 2022 and a 25% hotel tax increase in 2024.
“Career politicians always try to raise taxes whenever budgets get tight,” said Betsy Henderson, candidate for Knox County Mayor.
“We already pay one of the highest sales tax rates in the country. It’s shocking that Mayor Kincannon and other politicians think Knox Countians who live and work in the city can afford another tax increase. Four years of the Biden Administration crushed families and we can’t allow Knoxville and Knox County to follow suit.” She continued, “A lot of politicians think the government is ‘underfunded’. This is part of the game politicians play: run up debt, increase spending, and when the debt comes due, make families pay for it with a tax increase.” “I’m making a firm commitment today: I will oppose any tax increase on Knox County families,” Henderson concluded.
Betsy Henderson is the first and only candidate to commit to not raising taxes.
