Last night, Mikey Smith earned his heavenly wings and has left a hole in the hearts of his family and friends, especially Mrs. Peggy (his wife) and their daughter and grandson.

Mikey was active in East Knox County where they lived. He was active in Republican politics. He was always running the Eighth District Republican Club although he may not have had the title of President. Although, I am certain he was President a time or two. He and Alan Branch always were working together.

In June and July the club met at Marbledale Baptist Church where Mikey and Alan cooked food for everyone.

When I was elected Chairman of the Knox County Republican Party in 2005, Mikey presented me with a gavel, I still have it today, I don’t know how many Chairs got one, but I know the Chair before me got one from Mikey and I got one.

Mikey, you served well.
