Pond Gap Community Earns “Honorary Home Run Alley” Naming

City of Knoxville Mayor Indya Kincannon alongside David Williams, Mayor of Pond Gap unveiled the signs for Honorary Home Run Alley. A portion of Sutherland Avenue that hosted community baseball games, where blacks and whites played together, 10 years before Jackie Robinson integrated professional baseball.

In addition to Mayor Kincannon, City Councilman and Vice Mayor Andrew Roberto, City Council members Lynne Fugate and Amelia Parker was present. City Council-member Gwen McKenzie wanted to attend, but had another commitment.
