At the Three Rivers Republican Club (East and South Knox County) meeting on June 23, 2026, State Senator Becky Massey and State Representative David Wright presented a Resolution honoring Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler for his outstanding career in law enforcement.
The resolution, adopted by the Tennessee General Assembly, recognizes Sheriff Spangler’s decades of dedicated public service and leadership in protecting the citizens of Knox County. The full resolution can be viewed here, and is also included below.
In Nashville, Senate Joint Resolution 1205 was sponsored in the Senate by Massey, Lt. Governor Randy McNally, Senators Dr. Richard Biggs, Tom Hatcher, Ed Jackson, and Mark Pody. In the House, the resolution was sponsored by Representatives Wright, Elaine Davis, Justin Lafferty, Michele Carringer, and Jerome Moon.
During the presentation, Sheriff Spangler appeared to be reflective on his years of service and expressed appreciation for the recognition. True to the humble leadership style that has earned him the respect of colleagues and citizens alike, “Spanky,” as he is affectionately known by many, emphasized that his work is not yet finished.
Repeating a point he had made earlier in the meeting, Sheriff Spangler noted that he still has 68 days remaining in his term and intends to continue leading the Knox County Sheriff’s Office with the same dedication and commitment that have defined his career.
The resolution serves as a fitting tribute to a law enforcement career marked by professionalism, public service, and steadfast leadership.
