State Rep. Lowell Russell, R-Vonore, has been reappointed by House Speaker Cameron Sexton, R-Crossville, to serve as chairman of the House Civil Justice Subcommittee for the 114th General Assembly.

Before being elected to the State House in 2018, Russell spent 14 years as a Tennessee State Trooper.  In his personal life, he enjoys being involved in various community organizations and flying his twin-engine airplane.

“I’m truly honored to be reappointed to chair the Civil Justice Subcommittee, and grateful to Speaker Sexton for his continued trust in my leadership,” Russell said. “This session, we will tackle critical issues that will have a lasting impact on our state’s justice system for years to come.”

The eight-member Civil Justice Subcommittee is an arm of the House Judiciary Committee and addresses legislation related to the state’s civil justice system.

“As a former police officer, Representative Lowell Russell has a strong commitment to law & order,” Sexton said. “As chairman of the Civil Justice Subcommittee, Lowell’s experience will be vital in addressing key legal issues and ensuring our civil justice system works for all Tennesseans.”

This will be Russell’s third term as Civil Justice Subcommittee chair and fourth term on the committee. He has also served as vice-chairman of the House Calendar & Rules Committee.

Along with his chairmanship, he will serve on the Ethics Committee, Judiciary Committee, Transportation Committee, Criminal Justice Subcommittee and Transportation Subcommittee.

Lowell Russell represents District 21 which includes part of Loudon and Monroe Counties.
