The Tennessee Affordable Housing Coalition (TNAHC), a statewide nonprofit organization with a mission of connecting, educating, and advocating for affordable housing opportunities for all Tennesseans, has today announced that Alex Roberts has been named Executive Director, effective November 3, 2025. Roberts succeeds Patricia Smith, who left an indelible mark on the Coalition as its first and longest serving Executive Director.

“This transition represents an exciting next chapter in the Coalition’s history”, said Brian Brodnick, Incoming Chair of the TNAHC Board of Directors. “With deep gratitude to Patricia Smith for her years of service, we look forward to continuing the work of the Coalition, and finding new and creative ways to increase our impact.”

With demonstrated success, Roberts brings experience in 501(c)(3), 501(c)(5), and 501(c)(6) nonprofit organizations. A graduate of The George Washington University in Washington, DC, Alex has both knowledge and experience in nonprofit governance, mission-driven fundraising, and political and legislative advocacy that are well suited for the urgent work of the Coalition.

“As a proud Tennessee-native, I am honored to join this network of housing professionals and advocates as we work to ensure every Tennessean, from the hills of Appalachia to the Mississippi Delta, has a safe and affordable place to call home” Roberts said. “From physically moving at-risk folks into affordable housing units, to creating an emergency housing fund for unhoused students and their families, this issue is personal to me.”

Joining TNAHC from a national labor union, Alex served as a government affairs representative where he lobbied Congress on pro-worker safety and economic legislation. Prior to that, he has served in key roles with several charitable and political organizations. In addition to those professional pursuits, he and his wife Kiara are involved in many community service endeavors, especially focused on vulnerable communities.

The Tennessee Affordable Housing Coalition, founded in 2010, is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the availability and quality of affordable housing in the State of Tennessee.

TNAHC has three regional councils representing the Eastern, Middle and Western parts of the state. To become a TNAHC member or to learn more about the Coalition, visit here.
