Time for Knox Schools to Go Out of Security Business?

Shock And Awe first reported here 9 months ago about the security system deficiencies at Hardin Valley Academy and Powell Middle. A recap post of all of the post from the Hardin Valley Audit was posted last week, here. Jamie Satterfield, Court Reporter for the Big Metal Shed on the Hill reported for 5 days about the security system deficiencies over the last week or two.

Today, Satterfield has this story about a Knox County Schools Resource Officer being reprimanded for pointing his service at a fellow Resource Officer. The Officer was reprimanded and reassigned to another Knox County School.

I believe it is now time for Dr. McIntyre and the Knox County School Board to approach Knox County Sheriff Jimmy J.J. Jones and Knoxville Police Department Chief David Rausch and have all School Security Officers transferred to the Sheriffs Department for the schools in the county and to Knoxville Police Department for all schools within the boundaries of the city. The budgetary item of salary and benefits would move from the school system. In addition, the liability would also shift from the school district. The objection to this approach is that not all students should be arrested. All officers do not have to arrest, it is all about how Sheriff Jones and Chief Rousch train the officers for what is an arrestable offense. The resource officers that are transferred can explain to Sheriff Jones and Chief Rousch how they handle students and the Sheriff and Chief can instruct the training officers and supervisors how all officers are to approach and deal with the students.
