The race for the 2026 Knox County Primaries officially kicks off on September 1, 2025, with campaigns heating up for the May 5, 2026 election. Early voting is set for April 15–30, 2026. Leading the charge are the Republican campaigns for Knox County Sheriff, and we’re excited to spotlight the second candidate stepping into the ring.
Meet Bernie Lyon
Bernie Lyon, Chief Deputy of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, is throwing his hat in the ring. Lyon possesses 40 active years with the agency. Lyon has worked nearly every position within the organization. He became Chief Deputy in 2018 as Sheriff Tom Spangler began his tenure as Knox County Sheriff. Spangler is term limited, completing his second term on August 31, 2026.
